On January 2nd, 2009, a grand commemorative Statehood Gala, sit down dinner for approximately 2000 people will be hosted at the new Dena’ina Center.

Alaska residents and out of state visitors as well as VIPs and dignitaries from around the world will come together to pay tribute to our 50 years of statehood. The evening will be experienced through color and pageantry, music and special addresses layered with moments significant to this historical time in Alaska’s history.

This 50th Anniversary Commemorative print, signed by all of the living Alaska Governors, is a fundraiser for the Anniversary Celebration.
Every print has an embossed seal of the 50th Anniversary along with the hand signed signatures of the Governors. This historic print is the only document in Alaska history with the signatures of 8 living Governors. One half of the proceeds from the sale of the $1500 print will be used to help fund the 50th Anniversary of Statehood. The Alaska Community Foundation is the chosen recipient of the anniversary funds for nonprofit purposes. Each purchaser will receive a receipt from the Alaska Community Foundation for their donation to the 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Quilt Invitational

Quilt Panels that will be collected from all over the state, will be brought to Anchorage and there they will be displayed as part of the Statehood Day celebration on January 3rd, 2009.
The Statehood Quilt Invitational was originated and designed by the Anchorage Statehood Celebration Committee and will be a popular addition to statehood activities throughout Alaska. Over 150 Alaskan quilters expressed immediate interest in participating.
Quilters throughout the state are invited to submit a quilted “block” that is 24” X 30” in size. The design is to be original and should show some scene, design or image that represents the 50th Anniversary of Statehood to the artist. The blocks will then be combined to create 8’ X 10’ panels.

A series of bronze plaques, displaying a timeline of historical events in Alaska’s history, will be mounted on the outside of the Linny Piscillo parking facility on 7th Ave. Also, a 50th Anniversary Time Capsule, containing pertinent information about Alaska’s 50 years of Statehood, will be positioned at the end of the history walk or at some appropriate location downtown adjacent to the Linny Piscillo Parking Garage, the site of the Alaska History Walk.
A series of bronze plaques, displaying a timeline of historical events in Alaska’s history, will be mounted on the outside of the Linny Piscillo parking facility on 7th Ave. This Alaska History Walk will feature historical information about Alaska beginning with its purchase from Russia. Four of the plaques will display engraved portraits and information about Bob Atwood, William Egan, Bob Bartlett and Ernest Gruening who were four famous Alaska statehood pioneers. The Alaska History Walk will be enjoyed by locals an d visitors alike of all ages and will provide interesting and important information about the State of Alaska. It will also be a popular educational venue for school children.
The ALASKA HISTORY WALK plaques are sponsored by the ATWOOD FOUNDATION.
Time Capsule
A 50th Anniversary Time Capsule, containing pertinent information about Alaska’s 50 years of Statehood, will be positioned at the end of the history walk or at some appropriate location downtown adjacent to the Linny Piscillo Parking Garage, the site of the Alaska History Walk. The Anchorage School District will coordinate the information for the Time Capsule during the 2008/2009 school year. The 50th Anniversary Time Capsule is available for sponsorship. The Time capsule sponsor will have the opportunity to work directly with the school district from the beginning of the project until its completion. There are numerous opportunities for an exclusive sponsor associated with this important project. Depending on underwriting, the capsule has numerous sculptural possibilities. The actual design, fabrication and completed time capsule may require the involvement of designers, craftsmen and possibly artists depending on the project chosen.
